Error tring to install converter plugin

  • 1.  Error tring to install converter plugin

I have a brand new Virtual Center 2.5 setup and I am trying to install the VMware Converter plugin. When I go to Plugins | Manage Plugins and select "Download and install" on the VMware Converter plugin, I get the following error message: "The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."

I directly logged in to the Virtual Center server via RDP as local administrator and am attempting to install the plugin on the console of the VC server itself. I have also tried logging in as Domain admin but that did not make a difference.

    HELP???!??

401 error is related to internet authentication; do you have some account for authentication

    check this;

***The Web site that you try to view uses Integrated Windows authentication

That article really didn't help me; the app pool recycles every 1740 minutes. Integrated authentication is enabled, I really have no reason for that to be turned on. Any suggestions?

I recycled this server from a previous use so I have no idea if IIS was configured some weird way. Maybe I should uninstall Virtual Center, rip out IIS, and redo the whole thing from scratch?

Could someone explain to me what is going on under the hood when I click the "Doanload and Install Plugin" button? I have a feeling I know, but if someone else could confirm it, I might be able to more effectively troubleshoot. My thinking is that the VI client is connecting to the IIS server on the VC server to download the plugin and install it. I have no idea of the authentication method being employed.

    Hello All,

I have the same problems. what are the requirements of the account used for "Enterprise Converter for Virtual Center" ?

When i use my own account wich has domain admin privileges in the domain and Virtual Center Administrator privileges in VirtualCenter, everything works fine for the Enterprise Converter Plugin.

But when i use a seperate service account for it, with local admin rights on the virtual center server only and only the extension rights for the virtual center server within virtual center,

it does not work and i get the same error messages (see screenshots). Does Someone knows how to tighten up the service account to use with Enterprise Converter for Virtual Center 2.5 ?

    Thanx..

You can always specify local admin user id and password...

and I also faced the same problem, which you have attached...my suggestion is reinstall enterprise converter and guest agent, this solved problem for me...

    Hello dmtreff,

All right Guys, I had a same issue. as its mentioned in discussion, I uninstall and installed it again. I did shutdown VCS after unistalling. When I Installed it back it asked me to change ports for HTTP and HTTPS in converter as well as update manager installation. after that it worked smoothly. I just used my domain admin password for authentication

    Hope it helps

    Hello Ajay Nabh,

Looks like, enterprise converter virtual center plugin needs domain admin rights ?

I did a lot of tests and every test failed at the point downloading the enterprise converter client from the plugin manager.

when i provide an account with domain admin rights the enterprise converter software directly downloads and installs..

I almost cannot believe that this is the only working solution! Do you all use accounts with domain admin rights for installin enterprise converter for virtualcenter ?

I am not sure as I did not try with anyother account. I will do it some stage and post my findings.
