  • 1.  End of vSphere 7.0 cycle and New subscription model

I currently have a client with a five-year perpetual license for vSphere 7.0, vCenter 7.0, and vSAN 7.0, which expires in 2029. However, with the new Broadcom announcement that the 7.0 lifecycle will expire on October 2, 2025, and will no longer be supported or upgraded. Additionally, starting April 10, 2025, new subscriptions must have a minimum of 72 cores, I have the following question:

¿What would happen with the perpetual license for the client that expires in 2029? With this new announcement that the new subscription date will be April 10 and with a minimum of 72 cores, ¿does the client have to renew a new subscription starting April 10? ¿Or can they do so in 2028 when their existing license expires?

Additionally, what would happen if I wanted to upgrade the entire platform to version 8.0 before October 2nd of this year ¿Should I purchase a new subscription with at least 72 cores for version 8.0?
¿Or could I upgrade the client's active 7.0 subscription to 8.0 and avoid a significant expense?
If you could clarify my doubts, I would be grateful to see how I should handle any scenario that may arise.

From how I understand it, with existing perpetual licenses which still have active SnS (Support&Subscription), you can update and upgrade your systems until SnS expires, and you should have the option to upgrade the existing license keys to version 8 in the Broadcom Support portal. No need to purchase new licenses or upgrade to the new subscription based model.
