I need to know what are the differences between Essentials Plus Edition and Standard regarding the features.

I purchased before Foundation Edition which is upgraded automatically to Standard but the Standard prices is high in comparison to Essentials Plus.

I'm not sure if it's worth.

    Thanks,

    Haim Beyhan

essential plus comes with the below. bear in mind that you can only purchase 1 essential plus for your organization and there is no upgrade path. it comes with 3 physical (2cpu) host license and a vcenter for essentials. it's a deal too good to be true.

VMware ESXi or VMware ESX hypervisor architecture (deployment-time choice, VMware recommends the ESXi hypervisor architecture)

    VMFS (Virtual Machine File System)

    4-way Virtual SMP

    VMware vCenter Server Agent

VMware vStorage APIs / VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB)

    VMware Update Manager

    VMware High Availability (HA)

    VMware Data Recovery

    VMware vCenter Server for Essentials

    VMware vMotion

VMware vSphere 4 Standard includes the below. it is based by CPU license does not come with vcenter server license. but the good thing is that there i no limit on how much you can buy. you will need to purchase vcenter server foundation/standard separately.

VMware Hypervisor or VMware ESX hypervisor architectures (deployment-time choice, VMware recommends ESXi)

    VMFS (Virtual Machine File System)

    4-way Virtual SMP

    VMware vCenter Server Agent

VMware vStorage APIs / VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB)

    VMware Update Manager

    VMware High Availability (HA)

    VMware vStorage Thin Provisioning

    VMware vMotion

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but can I just confirm I am understanding the licensing right?  It looks like Essentials (weighing in at $500) has the equivalent of 3 2CPU ESXi licenses ($6000 worth for Standard) and a vCenter (limited to 3 VSpheres like Foundation which I see as $1500).  My cost comparison then shows that I can get for $500 what would would be the equivalent if purchased seperately of $7500.  Is that right?

For my purposes I am currently running one 2CPU free ESXi box, no managment or special features needed.  I need to add VCB or Veeam. So it seems like a no-brainer to go with Essentials, it just feels when comparing those 2 numbers like I must be missing something.  Do I have this right?

    Thanx,

    Jim

You have to consider the Essential Kit (yes, It really costs about US$500) is a very limited bundle, because you can't use features like HA or vMotion.  Essential Plus is a better choice, but it costs about US$3.500.
