  • 1.  Does Windows Server 2003 still run on vSphere 6.7?

    Posted Aug 13, 2018 06:39 AM

    Dear forum,

I am fully aware that VMware stopped supporting Windows Server 2003 with vSphere 6.7. Has someone tried already if such VMs still work or is VMware actually preventing Windows Server 2003 VMs from running on vSphere 6.7?

    Regards,

I think VM's with windows 2003 will continue running however they fall under Leacy support level category.

    Legacy

The Legacy support level is between Supported and Deprecated. These guest operating systems are typically no longer supported by the original vendor. As a result, VMware's ability to support this guest operating system is reduced because VMware may not be able to collaborate with the OS vendor to provide the highest level of support.

VMware continues to provide support for OS agnostic features. These include:

    • Virtual Machine lifecycle operations such as suspend, resume and power on/off/cycle.
    • Snapshot, revert operations and management.
    • Virtual Machine mobility operations such as vMotion and DRS.

    Dear Gayathri, dear Vijay2027,

Thank you very much for your replies! Knowing that Windows Server 2003 is still running but receives only "legacy support" is exactly the information I was looking for.

    Best regards,

Meanwhile, we upgraded our VCSA as well as all our vSphere hosts to version 6.7.0d. Windows 2003 runs without any issues and all features we need (mainly snapshots for backup) all fully working.
