  • 1.  Disconnecting a LUN correctly

    Posted Jun 16, 2022 06:13 AM

I went through several ESXi installations and didn't properly disconnected the LUN before formatting.  When I went into the SAN (Tegile is the vendor) and tried to removed the "initiator" for the iSCSi, I am getting a message that it is being used.

What is the proper way to disconnect it?  I am thinking next time I should go Storage ->Adapters-->Software iSCS and disable and reboot  the host several times before I want to reinstall the OS?

    pmichelli,

Thank you again.  Just to confirm this process doesn't delete data on the LUN?

I also noticed that when my host was renamed (example was adding a domain name) before a LUN was attached, the "Name and Alias" would change to reflect that.  But when a LUN was already attached, the Name and Alias won't change.  I guess its got to do with the LUN being connected as stated on the article.

    TT

This will not delete any data unless you delete the LUN from your SAN.  It will only remove it from ESXi
