Determining database size for VMware Update Manager

Is there a good way to esimate the size of the SQL server database that will be needed for VMWare update manager assuming I have 3000 vms and 1000 physical hosts?

Great - thanks.  On the spreadsheet it gives an "initial utilization" in MB and then a "monthly utilization" in MB.  Is the "monthly utilziation" a value that accumulates?  in other words:

Initial Utilization: 150 MB

Monthly Utilization: 70 MB

So at the end of the year I would have 150MB + 70MB/per month = 990 MB?

Or would I have 150 MB + 70 MB on any given month for a total of 220MB at any given time?

Hi,

yes any given month 220MB, however you wont see increase in size every month ,  since you wont be doing patching  of host / Update Manager activity every months for all the host.

OK great.  Also, how should I determine how many vCPUs and how much RAM are needed on the VM that will host the SQL server used by VUM?

You gonna use Dedicated SQL sever for update manager database ? Or if you will create database on SQL server which has vCenter server database ?

If you going to have vCenter server database  and update manager database, I dont think you need any thing extra resources to be added
