I have to convert a physical pc (a notebook with W7 Pro, IP 192.168.2.189) to a vm for VMware player by using the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone on a virtual server (ip 192.168.2.132), so I have to select "a remote machine". In the Destination System page, in "Select a location for the virtual machine:", althougt the location is on the same server, the program doesn't work with "C:\xy" and if I put any network path (olso \\localhost\xxx and a directory on NAS storage (ip 192.168.2.204)) and enter credentials, the program says "Multiple connections to 'network path' by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connection to the host and try again".

    I don't undestand the matter.

    What is the problem?

First of all - you can't convert a machine into WS format on disk which is part of conversion process.

About multiple users connection to one destination - whis is Windows limitation - check users on your machine including Administrator for active connections with your destination (use command 'net use' in command prompt.)

    net use \\192.168.2.204\test

    From the user's guide:

    -------------

    Select a Hosted Destination

You can convert a virtual machine for use with VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, VMware Server, or

    VMware Player.

    Prerequisites

If you plan to use a network path to locate the destination, verify that you have access to that network path.

    Procedure

1 On the Destination System page, select VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine from

the Select destination type drop-down menu.

2 Select the destination VMware hosted product from the Select VMware product drop-down menu.

3 Provide a name for the destination virtual machine in the Name text box.

4 Specify the location to store the destination virtual machine files.

    - If you are connected to a remote Converter Standalone server, provide a network path to the

    destination directory. For example, \\server\virtual_machines\.

    - If you are connected to a local Converter Standalone server, provide a network path or a local path

    to the destination directory.

5 (Optional) If the destination directory is password-protected, provide valid user credentials.

You do not have to provide user credentials if the destination location is on the local storage of the

machine where Converter Standalone server runs.

6 Click Next to proceed to the Options page

    ---------

it seems that possible to identify a local path, additionally it should not ask any credentials, but it isn't so!

I have used the net use command (see the attach), but VMware vCenter Converter Standalone doesn't work: always multiple connections!!!

The problem is connection to same network resource from different users...

However, how you connect from GUI to converter server? Try 'connect to local server' and repeat the convertion.

I've already tried, but doesn't work. The machines involved are: pc to convert, server Converter Standalone and storage. One solution could be to use the storage on the Standalone serve, but doesn't accept DOS path (C:/...).

Could you verify that network path is not connected on the source PC (from any users) before start of the conversion?
