Dell PERC9 (PERC H730, H730P or H830 Raid cards) : Passthrough to VM

    I know there are a few threads already regarding issues with Dell PERC9 (PERC H730, H730P or H830 Raid cards) passthrough to a VM on Esxi 5.x. I wanted to know if anyone has successfully assigned a PERC9 card PCI Device to a VM passthrough with no issues?

    -I have tested the above with a Win2k8R2 & Win2K12R2 VM. With both, the VM recognizes the PERC H830 card in Windows, however, as soon as I go to install the drivers (from Dell's site), the VM shutsdown. If I force the LSI drivers, the VM also shutsdown.

    - I have tried the 2 different PERC H830 card with a raid 6 array attached & another time with no external storage at all. I have also tried disabled/enabling the PERC H830 bios. Same result.

    - Dell PERC H830 firmware 25.2.1.0037   / 4.240.00-3615   : build 7/11/2014

    - Dell R730 & R710 servers

    I know there is an LSI 3108 firmware update that may possibly fix the PERC9 issues, but no firmware update from Dell yet.

    We have been running Dell PERC H800 & H810 passthrough to Win2k8R2 VM's for years with no issues. The issue is only with the PERC9 cards.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    (found this thread whilst trying to compare H810 vs H730 - the obvious difference being one is for internal SAS, the other for external SAS connections)

    any update to this Passthrough to VM query ?
