We have a Windows 2003 physical server that has a Digi AnywhereUSB concentratior attached to the server.  On the concentrator is a Dell USB Conexant RD02-D400 NW147 modem dongle.

We are about to virtualize this server but need to know if both the Digi AnywhereUSB concentrator and the Dell USB Conexant RD02-D400 NW147 modem will be compatible with the VM that will be P2V'd to our ESX5i (ver5.0) infrastructure.

I have located the document for the Digi Concentrator and it says it is virtual-ready and can be used with a VM.   I have not, however, been successful finding out if the Dell USB modem (dongle) is compatible.

Does anyone have the Dell USB modem attached to an ESXi host for a VM on the host?

    Thanks

    Hi,

If your motherboard supported "pass-through", you can use VMDirectPath I/O pass-through and load your USB devices directly to your VM.

But you need to reserve all your virtual machine's memory for this.

    See these links:

    1. USB Device Passthrough Configuration from an ESX/ESXi
    2. Supported USB device models for passthrough from an ESX or ESXi host to a virtual machine
