  • 1.  Debian VM Disk Full, how do I expand

    Hello Everyone,

    I am a total newbie to VM so please excuse my lack of knowledge but I will make up for it with effort.

    I am playing with EXSi 5.1 and have 3 VM's on one host. 1 of the VM's is 50Gb in size and is now full. I have upgraded them VM using VSphere to a disk of 200GB however I cannot get the debian 6 OS to see any change, it still thinks it is 50Gb and 100% full.  I setup the VM as 50GB initially with thin provisioning. 

    Can anyone give me some pointers ?  I have looked in the VMWare KB but it is mostly for EXSi 4 or older and does not seem to have been updated.

    welcome to communities!!

    I have upgraded them VM using VSphere to a disk of 200GB

    i hope by this you meant that the vmdk (virtual hard disk) size is increased to 200Gb. If so , we have to do changes in the OS now. We've to increase the partition/volume size.

    Its easy to do in Linux (Debian here) if its LVM based voluems. Follow the below KB for more details.
