Hello,
Since upgrading my vCenter/vSphere environment to 5 U1 I am now able to install and configured Windows 8 VMs (both server and core) and can also install VMtools and VMXnet3 nics etc. (Nice job fixing this with U1 VMware!)
However, I am having an odd issue which appears to be a a VMware problem. After promoting the Windows 8 VM to domain controller it will no longer boot. Monitoring the performance tab I can see a sharp memory and CPU spike however the machine will not boot into windows. Hitting F8 several times will allow me to boot into safe mode which comes up fine, however I cannot find any problem that is preventing the machine from booting.
Here's why I don't think this is a Windows issue - In order to further isolate the problem I installed Windows 8 on physical hardware and promoted it to a domain controller without an issue. After that I did a P2V of the physical box into my VMware environment and it turned on without an issue, so effectively I now have a Windows 8 DC functioning in my VMware environment, however I am unable to promote a member Windows 8 VM to DC successfully.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Has anyone else tried to promote a Windows 8 member VM to DC?
Thanks.
