    Hi all,

Is creating vm templates only not available in evaluation mode?

When I go to Inventory object I don't see a wizard to create a template.

    Any ideas

You take a virtual machine and "convert to template" you don't create a new template.  You have to have Virtual Center in order to use templates though.

    Hi,

You will need VMware vCenter in order to use templates. If you have vCenter in your environment, than connect that host to your vCenter and you'll be able to make a template from a VM. The ESX host in eval mode will not stop you from making templates.

    Hi Fazzauk,

No problem. So in order to create a Template

Right click the VM in question that is offline - > You should see Template -> Convert to Template. Then change to VMs and template view in VMware and you will see your template.

    Hi,

Using Templates is a feature of VMware vCenter. vSphere client connecting to a host will not provide that functionality.

Would that be the VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite I need to install in vCenter?

You will need to connect to VMware VirtualCenter and manage the host via vCenter.  Once you do that, you can right click on the VM (in either the vSphere Client or via the web client) and you will see the TEMPLATES menu mentioned above.

You will not see this option if you connect directly to the vSphere server itself.

    Sorry for being a numpty,

I've installed 5.5 ESXi and vSphere client where do I go to connect VirtualCenter to manage the host via vCenter?

You will need to install VMware vCenter on a server (VM or Physical server).  Once installed and configured, you'd connect to the vCenter instance and from there, add your hosts to be managed via vCenter.

Here is the vCenter 5.5 Deployment Guide.
