  • 1.  Creating a shortcut of vSphere console

We just migrated a couple of servers that 2 or our operators need access to. RDP isn't the best to remote into the these servers as it may open more than one instance of a couple programs that could cause issues. I don't really want to install vSphere, have them login and then open a console of the servers but that may be my only option. Is there a way to create a shortcut of just those 3 server consoles so they can just open those from the desktop and be presented with the login screen?

There is not Web UI for ESXi 4, so you'll need to give your users the vSphere Client.

    Do you have vCenter...

Connect to the vCenter web access...https://ip_of_vcenter/

Click on 'Log Into Web Access'

From there they can browse to the servers they need and get a console, or you can generate a Virtual Machine Shortcut.  you will see the link on the right hand side under commands.  That will generate a URL that you can give to them that will take them directly to the console of the selected VM.  All you need to do is download a plugin!

    Hope this helps!
