Converter Standalone server and agent for Windows.

I need to convert some .sv2i Symantec backup images to VMs.

I read that the format is supported only by "Converter Standalone server and agent for Windows.".

I installed VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client 4.0.1 but it does not recognize the input format.

What else shoud I install in order to perform the conversion?

    Regards

I attempted either standalone and client-server installation, but I still get a message "The source virtual machine is not recognized".

How can I install and/or configure Converter in order to convert my .sv2i image????

    Regards

It's exactly the same version I use.

Let me provide some further information: I install it on a Windows XP PC.

Converter works fine whlie converting virtual machines from one version to another or to my ESXi server.

I made several attempts with .sv2i Synmantec images and it looks like the format is not recognized.

I see in the bottom of the main page that "Windows converter standalone server" is required, but I can't figure what I should install...

    step 1

following are the only supported source version

Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery (formerly LiveState Recovery) 6.5, 7.0, 8.0 and 8.5, LiveState Recovery 3.0 and 6.0 2

    Norton Ghost version 10.0, 11.0, 12.0, 13.0, and 14.0 (.sv2i files)

    step2

    ensure the following

Prior releases of Converter Standalone (versions 3.x and 4.0.0) might not be compatible with VMware vSphere 4.0.

    step 3

check the source backup file consistency

    Thanks again.

My images were taken using Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5, so should be compatible...

What do you mean "Prior releases of Converter Standalone (versions 3.x and 4.0.0) might not be compatible with VMware vSphere 4.0."? I'm not using vSphere 4.0: should I?

I could restore my images on a bare metal server, so the images should be ok...

What further check can I perform?

    Regards

I made some further tests with other .sv2i images and the conversion works fine.

So my original problem was due to corrupted images.

Thank you for the whole of your help.

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to use Converter on my Ghost 14 .sv2i files and am getting the same "The source virtual machine is not recognized". I know that backup is fine because I did a restore with it. I also tried every .sv2i file I had sitting around and finally one of them was recognized--namely the only .sv2i file I had that just happens to be a very old one created using Ghost 10 (it's what I used before Ghost 14).

The backup made with Ghost 10 converted successfully and I was able to launch the VM in Player. Could there be some difference in how Ghost 14 writes out its .sv2i files that Converter doesn't understand?

A correction to the above. I double-checked and my sole working .sv2i and backup was created by Ghost 9, not Ghost 10 (you can see how old that backup was--three Ghost versions ago for me). Seeing that, I now remember that there were major changes from Ghost 9 to 10 (Ghost 10 was apparently a rebranded product obtained through an acquisition). A possible suspect?
