I installed Converter on a Win2000 server and when it goes to start I receive an "error 1920, Service Vmware Converter Service (ufad-p2v) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

I'm logged on as the local admin, this is a very hardened server though and alot of services are disabled. Is there a particular service that is a dependency like remote registry or a particular setting in the local security policy that needs to be set?

    You have rebooted it right?

On Windows 2000, the service adds some type of VSS driver for the snapshotting. If you don't restart, this typically doesn't run.

If you have rebooted, there's probably some dependency that is causing the issue, or possibly a permissions issue.

I'm going to give that a try next. This is actually still in the install process where it tries to start the service. Have never had this problem before. When I click Cancel though it rolls back and un-installs the application.

Try setting these services to manual or automatic:

    1) TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

    2) Server

I found another thread that mentioned you need Netbios enabled for Converter to work. I tried that and it worked. I had to both Enable Netbios over TCP/Ip in the TCP/Ip properties for the NIC and enable the TCP/IP Netbios Helper service

I'm getting the same error on a W2K Pro install. I've verified NteBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled and I've started/stopped/changed to manual/changed to automatic the TCP/IP Netbios Helper service. As this is a W2K Pro box, there is no server service. When I try to start the service manually, during the install, I get error 1075 - Dependency service does not exist or is marked for deletion. What is the dependency service?

    Thanks for any help.

I had the same issue installing on XP Service Pack 2, and nothing suggested got rid of the error. I created a virtual XP machine using the VMware server and then installed the Converter onto the virtual machine. It installed without a problem. I looked at the dependencies and noticed it needed the 'Server service'. The XP virtual machine had 'File and Print Sharing' services installed, where the machine I had trouble installing the converter to did not. After I added the service, the converter installed without a problem.

I hope this helps those who are trying to solve this problem....
