    Hi all,

I have a windows server that I would like to virtualise to ESXi which will exist on the same hardware as the server is now, once the server is virtualised. So, I would like  virtualise my server to "VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine", but it asks me for access to ESXi which is non existant... yet.

Is there a way to virtualise machine to "VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine" format but to my local disk and I will move the VM to ESXi later ?

    Regards

    Ciao

With VMware converter you can also convert a physical server into a format that can be used by VMware Workstation or Player (which you can then import onto an ESXi or a vSphere infrastructure)

Once the Converter has been launched, you must select the physical machine to be imported as the source (the converter can be installed on the physical machine itself or used by a management machine)

Then after select the Workstation or player format and the local disk to the converter (which can also be a USB disk) where to save the server

The server once converted and before importing it to ESXi you have to make it work? If you have to consider the CPU / RAM / Disk resources of the server where you will use the workstation or player ...

Once you have the server in workstation format you can import it on your ESXi server or on your vCenter like this:

    Hi Fabio,

that's exactly what I did, but I was wandering is there a straight forward way instead of circumwenting and improvising.

If there is something called "VMware infrastructure virtual machine" why there is no way to save result to local disk ??

Anyway, it works like you described by I hate to operate tonsils through anus, if you know what I mean ... :-.D

    regards

I understand the frustration for the long operation to do ..... :-D.

But in my 14 years using the converter has always been the safest method.

Otherwise you can try with this tool ... (which you may have already seen) never I have never tried it:

“VMware infrastructure virtual machine” converts directly to a vSphere host, which you don’t have yet. You could build a nested virtual one on a laptop or some other system if you want, otherwise follow the advice already given.
