  • 1.  Content of the shared LUN disappear

    Posted Feb 25, 2014 05:41 AM

I have a two node cluster, both the servers are running on ESXi5.5, We have added a particular LUN to both the host. This is a shared LUN. We are using this LUN as a datastore. Apparently the content of this particular Datastore disappears and the esx server fails to show the properties of this lun. Obviously at this point the VM in this datastore become inaccessible. If we reboot one of the host the content can be seen from other host for some time. Kindly help.

    Hi,

Can you check the following and also share more details:

    type of VMFS/NFS datastore

    Storage vendor

    protocol

    export policy for NFS

presentation & zoning for FC LUN

R/W access to the LUNs for ESXi hosts.

Did you check the /var/log/vmkernel.log on the ESXi hosts and the Storage Event logs for any information?

    Hi,

Thanks for you reply, please find the details below.

It's a FC lun, with VMFS 5.60. The storage vendor is Hitachi, I think the default access to the presented LUN is RW. Any how i will check and update if it is a read only disk.

The zoning and presentation are all ok, as we have been using this storage for long with other hosts. Whenever we bring a new host we add the wwn of that particular host in the already existing zone. And also we are able to use other luns on the same host from the same storage. The problem only arises when we try to use these luns as datastores and create VMs on it. The VMs created on this datastore is presented to both the ESX server in the cluster.

Kindly suggest if there is a resolution for this as we stuck with our work.

FYI, I check the vmkernel log and it's greeks for me. Please see if you could make any sense of it :smileyhappy:.
