  • 1.  Configure email alerts for hardware failures

    Posted Aug 08, 2014 04:35 PM

Our ESXi 5.5 environment goes live today and now that it will be in production I was wondering if there was a way to setup email alerts for hardware failures. For example, if one drive goes bad in our RAID array, I want to be emailed about it. Is that possible and is there a link to instructions on how to set that up?

Are you using vCenter Server, if yes. go to Alarm tabs, change to Definitions view and you will see an screen like that:

Select one of the alarms that you wants be notified, double click, go to Actions tab and add the action "Send a notification email" and type the email address:

Go to menu Administration -> vCenter Server Settings -> Mail and type SMTP Server and Sender Account.

Looks like it can't use authentication though, just a host name or IP
