Cloned Server 2012 r2 will not connect to the Internet

I recently cloned Server 2012 but am unable to connect it to the network.

IP address, netmask, gateway, and dns are all relative to the originial VM and are static.

Ethernet adapter is vmxnet3

I tried setting DHCP to auto with no luck. When I type ipconfig /release in CMD I receive a message "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

Restarted and went back to static.

I try to diagnose the adapter in Network Connections and it says to restart your modem, no help.

What am I not doing?

are you able to ping default getaway? Please share network adapter screen shot .

I can ping the gateway.

Remove the network adapter also check for ghost adapter in the device manager, perform a clean up and add a new network adapter , complete Ip configuration part and check if that helps

I was looking at that article when you mentioned it. There were no grayed out adapters.

Please check if you are able to ping DNS 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8.If yes than you have check below setting .

Disable proxy server on Internet Explorer

Press Windows Key + R on the keyboard.

When Run dialog appears type inetcpl.cpl and hit Enter.

Click Connections tab, and then click the LAN settings button.

Check if your proxy settings are okay. (  Automatically detect setting should be select if you do not have proxy serer)

If you can ping the gateway, the problem is NOT Layer 2 (related to the VM connectivity).

Look outside at L3 devices such as firewalls/routers.

I disabled the firewall but still have no connection. My original machine that I cloned this one from has connection, the clone basically has all the same settings I just changed the IP to one that is unused.

DNS is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

What else should I look into?

try running ipconfig /all in both the clone and source VM and look for duplicate MAC address, as unlikely as that might be.

Also, how many NICs are assigned to the Virtual switch where the VM is located? Is it the same vSwitch as the original?

Try removing that NIC and adding a new one.
