  • 1.  Client USB Devices greyed out, but not for all VMs

    Hello,

I've a problem with redirecting USB devices from my client machine to a VM.

I've added an USB controller to redirect an USB devices from the client. I can click on the USB icon and on "Connect USB Device" (I'm using a german UI, not sure about the exact translation). But all USB devices are greyed out.

I've a second VM with USB controller and there I can select the USB devices, so it's not a client problem such as UAC (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2052632).

    Any idea?

    Kind regards,

    Dennis

    Hi

    Welcome to the communities.

This issue occurs because User Access Control (UAC) within the guest operating prevents unauthorized changes to the computer and has prevented the detection of local USB devices within the vSphere Client.

Please follow the steps for resolution

To resolve this issue, turn off or disable UAC and then select an available USB: 1.Turn off or disable UAC for your operating system. 2.Click the USB icon on the virtual machine toolbar. 3.Select an available device from the Connect to USB Devices dropdown.

As I described, this happens only to one VM. I can redirect USB devices to other VMs.

I already disabled UAC - it does not help.

    I found the problem.

The VM is a virtualized physical system and the VMware Converter has created a VM with hardware version 4, but I think I've set to use hardware version 8. However, after upgrading hardware version from 4 to 8, I can redirect USB devices to the guest :smileyhappy:
