  • 1.  changing ip and vlan tag on VDS

I have an 8 node stretched vsan. We need to change the IP and vlan tag on the mgmt portgroup for the hosts.  Luckily vsan and vmotion are not on this PG (however they are on the VDS).  I am trying to figure out how to change the IP and tag, without losing connectivity ( a few min is fine).  If I change the tag in vcenter first then all the hosts mgmt will go offline. If I change the IP first then they will not be able to communicate with the VC to get the new tag.

Should I change the vlan tag first and then change the ip through DCUI? but then would the host know about the new tag?

Thoughts on the proper order of operations here?

    thx

What I've done in the past is just create another vmk on the mgmt network to maintain connectivity, then web into that IP, change your vmk0 items, fix DNS, then you will be ok. i would MM first, then right click disconnect, do the work, make sure DNS resolved, then reconnect.
