  • 1.  Changing an already mounted NFS share IP

Hey guys, I have an NFS share that was created and mounted to all my ESXi 6.0 Hosts which has VMs running on it. Problem is the Admin used an IP that was direct to one storage node rather than the VIP IP to the entire storage cluster. I'm not seeing a way really to modify the properties to this...any ideas or KB's i can follow to fix this without any data loss. Thanks.

You'll need to shutdown those vms and dismount the nfs store, then remount using the correct IP.

So unmount the store and add back in with the new IP and utilizing the same datastore name and the VMs that were powered off will have no issues with connecting back into that datastore and powering on. Just want to make sure no data loss is at play here. thanks for the response.

You will need to unregister those VMs from inventory as well, and that has some implications depending on what all you're using in your environment. But, yes, assuming you can 1.) power down; 2.) unregister VMs; 3.) remove NFS mount across all hosts; 4.) re-mount using correct IP/hostname; and 5.) the NAS allows you to mount with the same permissions, you'll see those VMs. There will not be any data loss. That said, any time you start messing around with storage, the strong recommendation is to err on the side of caution and ensure you have a full backup of all VMs that reside on said storage.
