  • 1.  Change hot key CTRL-ALT

I am running vSphere Hypervisor with guest OS: SCO UnixWare 7.1.4.

SCO UnixWare has several console multiscreens (12 to be precise). To switch between these consoles you use CTRL-ALT-Fn, where if, for Fn, you press F3 you are switched to multiscreen F3.

But I cannot use this, because VMware uses the same CTRL-ALT function to defocus the mouse.

I saw in the Workstation 7 version that I can reprogram the hot key combination to something other than CTRL-ALT. But unfortenately I cannot find this option in the VMware vSpehere Client.

So where/how can I change this hot key?

There is no way to change the CTRL ALT key combiation in ESX(i).

None of these are appealling, I knowsadly, this is hardcoded as far as I know.

    you have alternative options

    1. find a way to get you VM to output the console somewhere other than screen (virtual serial port or something ) - and get a tool the can read form there
    2. Code hotkeys in your Sco environment
    3. Use 1 Console?
    4. code something to interrupt keypresses before VMware gets them
    5. Hardware instead of VM?

But none of the above are appealling, I know - sorry :smileysad:

Are there not any 3rd Party Remote Management tools that will allow you to do this without the VM console?

I find it strange that it isn't possible. Because in Workstation there is the option to change this, so it can be done. Where can we suggest changes for the vSphere client?

Regarding you point 5: That's why I am using VM, because there isn't almost any hardware on the market anymore where I can install SCO Unixware on...

    But thanks for your input!

Sorry to reply to such an old post, but I have the need for this same exact issue. (Need to send ALT+F1-F8 to switch between virtual consoles.)

Something I've found is it must be some registry setting(s) as this guy in this thread(below) had VMware Workstation and the vSphere client installed on the same machine. When he changed the settings (remapped keys) in Workstation it also took effect in the vSphere client.

It would be nice to know which registry settings, as I'd go change them right now. :smileysilly:
