    Hi All,

    daft newbie question coming up.

    I've dabbled with esxi 4.0 and 4.1 and have a couple of Linux Guests running quite happily. Looking to virtualise a couple of Windows Servers in the coming months to replace 2 existing physical servers. Figured I might as well move to ESXi 5.0 and can't find the option to install the 'CD image for linux guest OSes' either during the install process of 5.0 or afterwards in the vSphere client. I seem to remember with 4.1 there was an option to install extra CDs as part of the installation process. Every search I've done seems to point to 'how to install VMware tools to a linux guest' sort of answers. I'm obviously missing something simple, any help much apreciated.

    You might be referring ISO images and can check it here: http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/dell_esxi_5_0_0_ga_23aug2011/dHRAYnRwamhiZHAlJQ== My apologies if I didn't understand you right.

    thanks for your reply.

    On the download page for VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.0:

    http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/vsphere_hypervisor_50_en/dHdkYnQlaiViZHBwdw==#open_source

    there are 3 files available for download, the ESXi 5.0 iso, VMware vSphere Client 5.0 and 'VMware Tools 5.0 - CD image for Linux Guest OSes'. Its this last one that I presume that I need to install as I am unable to either create a new Linux guest or convert one of the existing ones that I have running on an ESXi v 4.1 box. I just can't find anyway of installing it. (hopeless I know)

    my bad, I re-installed ESXi 5.0 and all is well.

    That leaves me wondering what the seperate download of CD image for Linux Guest OSes is actually for?
