Cannot install converter on a windows server 2000 SP3

I'm trying to hot clone a Windows server 2000 SP3. When installing the converter agent remotely from virtual center I get an error stating that the connection to the agent was lost. The converter service is installed on the server, but not started. If I try to restart the cloning process I get the same error.

Are there any logs anywhere that can help me solve this?

I downloaded the converter standalone 4.0.1, but when I try to install it it demands SP4.

Is there any way I can get converter to work with SP3? Did the remote installation fail because of the machine only having SP3?

I know I can cold clone, but I don't want the downtime on the server.

Unfortunately it seems that neither VmC, nor SCVMM are not compatible with Win 2000 earlier that SP4. But have a look at Vizioncore vConverter - it seems to be working with SP3.

either do a coldclone or update to sp4.

If you want to do Coldclone I would use ghost or Acronis plus DriverInjectionGUI from a BartPE.

AFAIK VMware coldclone CD will also fail to configure 2000sp3 - but it is possible with mentioned DriverInjectionGUI

I was hoping that doing a cold clone was my liferaft, but it seems to be sinking.

I think I will try to install 2000sp3 on some other HW and try to coldclone that to see if it works.

Another option is to make an empty vm and do a bare metal restore from backup to the vm and hope for the best.

Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Do you have a BartPE with ghost or acronis ?

So I can boot it on another media, take a ghost image over the network and import it to a vm afterwords?

No, I do not have BartPE. Do you have a convenient link?

The server in question is rather unstable as it is and we will do a fresh install on vmware.
