  • 1.  cannot add host to distributed switch

    Hi,

    I' ve created a distributed switch, but I'm unable to add my esx hosts to the uplink port group. The list just turns up empty.

    This is my configuration:

    two esx hosst:

    - esx01

    - esx02

    datacenter name: HIC_DC_BE.

    Both hosts are part of this datacenter, and are in a cluster called "CLUSTER01".

    I created a distributed switch, also in the HIC_DC_BE datacenter.

    When I click-right and select "add and manage hosts", my esx hosts do not show up. How can I fix this?

    The only thing I notice, is that hosts are under

    - HIC_DC_BE -> CLUSTER01 -> <hostname>

    and the switch is under:

    - HIC_DC_BE -> <switch>

    But you can't create create a distributed switch under a cluster!

    So distributed switches are not usable when you are using a cluster? I don't understand, sigh....

    You cannot add hosts with an Essentials license to a Distributed Switch.

    See the licensing white paper at http://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/whitepaper/vmware-vsphere_pricing-white-paper.pdf

    Well, that "solves" my problem and saves me a lot of time.

    Thanks!
