  • 1.  Best way to replace a VM server?

We have 5 vm servers all in different subnets, all with their own datastores on the vm's themselves. I have Vsphere controlling all of them and I am licensed only for those 5. I want to take out one vm server and replace it with a new one. Moving the datastores etc. would not be possible as the vm's would be in a different subnet and that would throw everything off. If I had 6 licenses it would be easy but we don't.

What's the best way to handle this?

You actually don't need an additional license for this. Once you install the new host it will run in evaluation mode for 60 days which allows you to add the host to your vCenter Server environment and migrate all the VM's.Once done remove the old host and assign its freed up license to the new host.
