  • 1.  Ballooning and Swapping with plenty of free memory available

    Posted Dec 16, 2022 04:13 PM

We have a cluster with 60 hosts filled with resource pools set with reservations.

some of these RP's have Ballooning memory

The Cluster shows Ballooning memory even though there is 7.95 TB of unaccessed memory

None of the RP's are consuming more memory than their reservations.

Why is there so much ballooning ?

Any limits set on any VMs? Use something like RVTools to validate your VMs on limits...

there are no limits on VM's within the resource pools, we are using the resource pools reservations for that.

pretty well all vm's are in a resource pool ( there are a couple management and infrastructure VM's not in an RP)

    Here is an Example:

On that same cluster, there is a resource pool that shows Ballooning of 200GB while there is 110GB + of reservation available ?

And a VM inside that resource pool with 8GB memory allocated to it and 5GB is Ballooned.
