  • 1.  backup leaves snapshot and hangs VM

Arkeia backup software is leaving a snapshot on our vsxi 5.5 server and the vm is hanging and needs resetting! There is only one snapshot.vmdk remaining but there are three (servername).vmdk files

Ran a backup last night which completed OK but left a snapshot needing consolidation. I ran consolidation and it failed An error occurred while consolidating disks: msg.snapshot.error-FAILED. Synchronous consolidate failed for scsi0:0: msg.disklib.CANCELLED. The virtual machine has exceeded the maximum downtime of 60 seconds for disk consolidation..Once again had to power it off to consolidate. Has anyone seen this message?

Sundays backup left snapshots and hung this server. I tried to consolidate- An error occurred while consolidating disks: msg.snapshot.error-FAILED. Synchronous consolidate failed for scsi0:0: msg.disklib.CANCELLED. The virtual machine has exceeded the maximum downtime of 60 seconds for disk consolidation. I had to shut down the machine and consolidate.

I ran a backup last night and it failed 'Failed to create a snapshot of MAIN: An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine.'

Again it left snapshots. I tried to shut down the server but it wouldn't shut down so I had to power it off to consolidate!

    This was during the backup

    Virtual machine disks consolidation failed.

Please post a screenshot of datastore folder where VM resides and tell me if you're running out space on datastore.

    Welcome to the Community,

    did you already

    • check whether the version you are using is supported with vSphere 5.5?
    • search the backup software's logs for hints?
    • open a support case with the backup software vendor?

Unfortunately the screenshot doesn't show the VM's folder as requested by . What it shows however is that you are running an ESXi host that was most likely upgraded from an earlier version, and the version/build has not yet been upgraded to fix the heartbleed/OpenSSL issue.
