Automatic DRS rule

All,

I have an 8 host cluster, 6 of the hosts are 5.5 and 2 are 5.1 (temporary until network team can update a vm that only supports 5.1)

I noticed that DRS was not working, after investigating a found a DRS rule that only included the 2 5.1 hosts.

Is VMware smart enough to create that rule? I certainly did not create it and the other 2 admins are telling me did not either.

Ah.  This is an interesting one.  I have not noticed this with past upgrades.  I am not sure if the Host DRS group was created or not but I can tell you that you would not want to have DRS in a mixed environment.

                                                

5.5 introduced HW ver 10.  You would not want a VM to be upgraded to ver 10 and then move to a 5.1 host via an HA event.

Question - Do you also have a Virtual Machine Group with a rule keeping particular VM's on the 5.1 hosts?  Curious.
