  • 1.  Assigning a MAC address to a virtual machine

I want to assign a MAC address to a vurtual machine. Can I just do the edit config and chnage the MAC address and set to maual?

I'm a bit confused by some documentation I have (and haven't had time to test this out).

Would I need to make the MAC 00:50:56:XX:XX:XX where XX's are the last ones of the origianl I want, or can I enter the whole MAC address I want?

    Has anyone done this?

    thanks

You can change the MAC address by editing th e.vmx file. You have to follow some rules. Read KB article 507 and 1008473 (in case of ESX/ESXi and a Windows guest) for more on this.

Thanks. 1008473 answered my question. When I searched (before posting) I found the other articles about manually editing the vmx file, but nothing refering to device manager method which made me wonder if it really worked.

    thanks again
