Have you checked if your vpn is having any restriction like only well known ports are allowed?

    Hi there,

I've the exact same issue reported "An error occurred while connecting to depot." on a brand new vCenter's lab instance  (vCenter Server 8.0 Update 1c build 2088981) with nested hosts (currently at 8.U1a 21813344 - template is from William Lam website)

I've no network restriction either, vCenter and ESXi hosts are on same subnet.

    I had similar issues.

I just fixed the issue with the replacing of working DNS configuration on ESXi hosts.

Thank you this was my issue.  DNS settings were wiped out on my host.  I populated them again and it worked.  Thanks Lokesh_gsl
