  • 1.  AMS 2100 or EVA 4000 SAN

We are about to invest in a new SAN and got a nice offer on Hitachi AMS 2100 SAN. Currently we have an old EVA 4000. We are not familiar with Hitachi products or if there should be an issues with VMware vSphere and the AMS 2100.

So... Does anyone have experince with performance on the AMS 2100 (and perhaps also EVA 4000)

    Specs on the AMS 2100

    60x300 GB SAS (15K)

    8 GB Cache

Specs on our own EVA 4000

    42x146 GB Fiberchannel disks (10K)

    14x450 GB Fiberchannel disks (15K)

We have 50 VM guest on 6 ESX4 Hosts

Should we continue on EVA 4000 or should we go for the AMS 2100

Get a quote for the HP P4000 Lefthand SAN. Awesome kit, fully featured out of the box and with a 2 node cluster configuration highly available.

We looked at the lefthand, but it is running iSCSI and we prefer to use our fiber-technology and SAN-switches. But thank you.

    Hello.

I don’t have any experience regarding AMS2100 but i have experience with EVA.

I have an EVA 4000 with 3 enclosures and disks 146GB and 300GB, all in 10k and its really fast. I'm very satisfied with EVA and i'm suggesting you to use it.

I'll give you an example. I had to expand the disk's of 2 vm's.

One of them was on MSA1500 and the expansion took about 5 hours to complete( 24GB in RAID5).

The other one is on EVA and i have to expand it by 50GB. It was completed on 5-10 minutes.

    Go for EVA.
