  • 1.  Alternative zum KMS Server

    Hallo zusammen,

    ich betreiben eine Testumgebung für Kundensoftware mit derzeit ca. 30 bis 40 VMs auf der Basis von VMware 6.5. Das ist nicht bersonders groß und nun kommt aber Windows 11 dazu. Das erfodert Verschlüsselung und einen KMS Server. Unter Version 6.7 scheint dieser unumgänglich zu sein und muss zwingend extern sein. Unter Version 7.0 sind die Infos wiedersprüchlich. Gibt es in diese Version eine Möglichkeit ohne einen externen KMS Server auszukommen? Für meine kleine Testumgebung ist so ein Aufwand einfach unsinnig.

    Wäre sehr für eine alternative Lösung dankbar.

    With vSphere 7.0.u2 VMware introduced a internal KMS which comes with vCenter.  With a valid subscription you can upgrade your VCSA from 6.7 to 7.x. You dont need to upgrade the Hosts. (Keep in mind that support end for 6.x is 10/2022).

    HINT: There are some post here in the forum which say that they cant activate the KMS within vCenter Essentials. So you need to investigate here.

    First of all thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me where I can find the KMS function in VCSA 7.0 U2?

    On vCenter level -> Configure -> Security -> Key Providers.
