Trying to make a virtual machine from a local powered on Windows XP SP3 system. It goes throught the entire process and fails at the end with "system Volume" issues and says "reconfiguration has failed".

New VM seems to be created in its entirety but will not make it through boot process and locks up. I have tried 4 times today and thought it may be sysprep related but I followed those instructions and it did not

seem to help. Any suggestions? Please helpp???

    Have you checked the logfiles?

Have you installed a standalone converter an tried to consolidate a physical machine?

I have looked at the log files but the language is foreign to me?? What particularly am I looking for? The standalone converter is installed on the physical machine I am trying to clone.

    Look in

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Converter Enterprise\Logs

    and the last modyfied log.

Here is the screen shot. Still getting the same error today. Does the external storage device need to be the same size or larger than the

    physical machine drive being cloned?

You would not normally install standalone converter on the physical machine that is to be converted.

Converter automatically installs an agent on the machine to be converted and optionally deletes it afterwards.

Of xouese you can do so, it is more work but it works.

I've tested it with our printserver and it worked well.

Installed this on a machine and converted it.

Normally you import your physical Server thorough you vcenter with the enterprise importer for sure.

Still not resolved. When I go to boot image now I get a missing ntldr error during boot and that is as far as it goes.

    specs:

Trying to image an power on active machine using standalone converter and imaging to an external hard usb hard disk. I have numerous partitions on this external drive. Could this be causing any issues?

    os is windows XP pro

configuration goes fine until it gets to configuration and fails. Image is created but errors during start up as above.

    Still seeking help.

    thanks,

    Ron
