  • 1.  3D Hardware Support for RTX2060 pci passthrough

    Posted Sep 02, 2019 04:38 PM

I am playing/learning with ESXi 6.7. I have enabled pci passthrough fgor my NVIDIA RTX 2060 GPU and have added "hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = FALSE" to the configuration parameters in the web client VM Advanced Options. This allowed me to install and use the NVIDIA driver. The GPU is working in the Windows 10 Pro guest VM, but when I try to start Minecraft, for example, it says ther is no OpenGL support.

So, I tried to enable 3D Support in the web client "Edit Settings - Video Card - 3D Graphics Support" with 32MB total video memory. I also added the VM configuration of "mks.enableMTLRenderer = FALSE" and "mks.enableGLRenderer = TRUE", but it still doesn't allow me to run Minecraft in the VM.

Can anyone tell me what Ineed to do for OpenGL to work? Thanks in advance for your help!

    As per the Article

VMware Compatibility Guide - Shared Pass-Through Graphics

Only Few Specific GPU are supported with the Pass-through GPU

Also please follow the below steps and let me know if it helped

A.Ensure the virtual machine is powered off.

B.Navigate to the virtual machine's .vmx file.

    C.Add the line mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers = "TRUE".

D.Save the changes to the .vmx file and Exit.

E.Attempt to power on the virtual machine. The message should no longer come up.

Thanks for your suggestion, however, I'm still getting the same error. Even though I have the latest NVIDIA driver installed, it still says there is no OpenGL support.

I am using the same video card in my new msi gs75.  However I am using vmware workstation and player v16.1 so this may not apply.

I had some luck after setting VMware player to use the rtx2060 in geforce setup then in the program specific settings setting opengl to use the 2060.

Oh, also need to set the exe to use the rtx2060.

You should see if running the VM is using rtx when running using the graphs in task manager on host
