I am wondering can I set prefer node for virtual machine to power on (Hyper-V have such feature)?

Could not found anything on the internet. In here, I just enable HA without DRS.

Hi and welcome to the communities,

with HA you can't specifiy on which host the VM will be restarted in the case of a hardware failure.

To place VMs automaticly on specific hosts, you would need to enable DRS and create DRS-rules.

So does it means, HA make sure the guest is alive and once the guest VM power up. DRS will make sure it will go to designated VMware host?

    Yes,

it's HA's responsibility to bring the VM back up. No matter where ( there are some types of DRS-rules that HA will consider when restarting )

And DRS will move the VM according to your rules or just load balance it across the cluster.

If you want to dig deeper in the HA topic, you should take a look at Duncan Eppings blog: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/vmware-high-availability-deepdiv/

It's really helpful to understand what's happening inside the hosts. Also his and Frank's book "vSphere 5.1 Clustering Deepdive " that is mentioned on the blog is really worth the money, when you want to know even more :smileywink:
