2 cluster 8 host vs 1 cluster 16 host

Hello everyone, 

I wanted to consult professionals. I currently have 2 clusters of 8 hosts each, but I am about to migrate these hosts to new machines. And now the question: is it better to create one large cluster with 16 hosts or better 2 clusters. The number of machines is comparable, permissions do not matter here. Both clusters use the same storage, but one cluster has storage on FC and the other on ISCSI. On the new ones, everything will be FC.

In fact, I think better is to have one big cluster. Better flexibility, management.

There are limits but very large

I would just go for one cluster to be honest in most scenarios. You are nowhere near cluster limits, so unless you have a huge amount of VMs, or LUNs, then just do 1 which is easier to manage if you ask me.

In total I will have 400 vm with about 26 datastors.

nothing to worry about then, we are talking thousands of VMs and hundreds of datastores before I would consider multiple clusters.

Agree. I would also use 1 cluster and 16 hosts.

Tend to agree with everybody else here - 1 large cluster. 

 

However, not to stick my neck out but was also wondering if there is any wisdom in having a small 'Management Cluster' for things like the VCSA and any other management type appliances? Or has this thinking gone the way of the Moa?
