  • 1.  Errors on the deploy OVF template after adding the server host to the Vcenter

    Posted Jan 12, 2024 07:20 AM

Hi, recently I have installed the ESXi on the Dell server, and also managed to install the Vcenter on the server. After adding the server host to the Vcenter, for each few second, there are errors reported:

    • In the Recent Tasks tab: Task name: Deploy OVF template; Status: A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreCreateCheckCallback: Invalid state
    • Deploy OVF template; Status: A general system error occurred: PBM error occurred during PreCreateCheckCallback: HTTP error response: service unavailable.
    • There is also a warning showing: Registration/Unregistration of third-party IO filter storage providers fails on a host.

The DELL server is: PowerEdge R6515 Server

ESXi version: 8.0U2 custom image (if not using custom image, the 4 hard drives in the server cannot be detected by the ESXi client.)

    Vcenter version: 8.0

The installation of ESXi and Vcenter is quite smooth without issues, just the errors and warning popped up right after adding the server host to the Vcenter. Also I cannot create VM for the host in the Vcenter, everytime I create VM the operation is failed. I have to create VMs in the ESXi client instead..

Appreciate for any help in advance!!

Have you tried to install OVF from ESXi level not from vCenter?

A few questions to clarify the environment:

Is the Dell server the only host?

How are you creating the 'structure' to add the host to vCS?

What is the OVF template that is being deployed, or what are the specs that the OVF needs?

What type of license are you using for the ESXi host?

If it is easier, take a screenshot - blur out details you don't want shared (like names/IPs) that will help understand the context to provide a better answer.

Something wrong with the SPS service. Can you check if sps service is running on the vCenter.
    1) Take SSH to vCenter
    2) Run the command service-control --status --all

Did you try to reboot vCenter Server and then check the issue?

Also, did you get a chance to check the relevant logs located at /var/log/vmware/vmware-sps/ within vCenter Server?

Thank you for everyone who contributed to this question!!!

Seems somehow the IO filter storage warining is correlated with the Deploy OVF template errors. After updating the IO Filter Registration on the ESXi Host using the command below, and reboot everything, both the errrors and warning are gone, thank you very much for your time and help!

    /usr/lib/vmware/iofilter/bin/iofvp-ctrl-app -r
