No system resources for linux server

  • 1.  No system resources for linux server

    Hi Folks,

We have discovered some linux servers in SPECTRUM and unable to see system resources.

Configured Net-SNMP 5.3.2.2 for these servers and the Spectrum version is 9.1.2.

Please suggest what to do in order to see the system resources for these servers.

    Thanks.
    Sravan.

    Hi Sravan,

Is the machine reachable? Are you able to get any response for the SNMP queries using any MIB-Browser or something similar? Do you have teh appropriate community strings in place?

    Regards,
    Kiran Diwakar

Yes, I am able to reach the server.

I am able to ping, poll and also able to query the mibs using MIB-Tools.

Only thing is, when we discover these servers, we are unable to view system resources option under information tab of the component details.

    Does Spectrum support Net-SNMP 5.3.2.2?

    Hello Sravan,

Normally that area of a server model is driven by the hostResourcesMibModule tables that start at OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.

Are you able to query the OIDs and tables within that MIB area and see data?

If not then the agent involved either doesn't support it, or isn't configured to populate that MIB area with data.

We do find some older UNIX agents for Solaris and Linux don't support that table or have bugs in it causing problems such as this that only the vendor can resolve.

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Polomi,

We are unable to query the OID of systemprocesses within the MIB tools.

    Thanks,
    Sravankumar

If you can't query the hostResourcesMibModule tables that start at OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.25 via MIB Tools in Spectrum, or get error responses such as NoSuchName, then the table is empty of data, or not supported by the agent/protocol configured for SNMP, or there is a bug in the agent/protocol configured for SNMP.

Unless Spectrum can query those tables and see data in those tables, it will not provide that data in the System Resources area of the server host model in Spectrum.

These tables are the tables that Spectrum relies upon to obtain that data.

You will have to correct the security-settings in the snmpd.conf file. Normally it is stored in /etc or /etc/snmp.

The line which is import would be:

[font=Courier New]# Make at least snmpwalk -v 1 localhost -c public system fast again.
    # name incl/excl subtree mask(optional)
    #view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
    #view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1
    [font]

above the limit for subtrees. To allow you would have to change it like and grant it further down in the config...

[font=Courier New]# Make at least snmpwalk -v 1 localhost -c public system fast again.
    # name incl/excl subtree mask(optional)
    #view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
    view systemview included .1
    [font]

    HI,

We could able to see system resources tab for linux servers. After upgrading the Net-SNMP version to 5.7.1.

    Thanks,
    Sravankumar

    Hi Sarankumar,

I am also facing the same issue. I am using RHEL 5.7 OS for spectrum.

SNMP vesion we are using is 5.3

Linux agent boxes are also of the same OS version: RHEL 5.7

    ---------------------------------------

I need one favour: What version of RHEL OS you are using?
Please it is bit urgent, if you get one minute time it will be really appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hello Pradeep,

I suggest you to upgrade Net Snmp agent version to 5.7 on the end devices . This should be a problem with the agent.

    Hi Kalyan,

Thank you very much for your updates. I appreciate for your response.

I agree but my question is which RHEL OS version is supported for NET-SNMP 5.7.x version?

My Linux agent OS is also RHEL 5.7. So NET-SNMP 5.7 would work.

I have gone through the community message I do not find any OS version details.

My Linux team says NET-SNMP 5.7.1 would require OS upgrade. Current OS is RHEL 5.7.

On which RHEL version you have done the testing. Please update.

    Thanks.

    Hello Pradeep,

Personally i haven't done the testing on this version but the root cause of the problem should be the agent . If your linux team says it needs an OS upgrade you need further check the read me for net snmp 5.7.1 to verify the compatible operating system version.
