Can you add more colors in the Story color code button?  We use these colors and want to add more to mean different things but I can't find anything about colors when I search except that they exist.#needmorecolors

Unfortunately not. The color selection popup isn't customizable.

This is a question that we frequently get from new starters joining our organisation.

 

It seems deliberate that there isn't a red, for example.   Is that a Rally design decision to deliberately NOT let people assign a colour that would be perceived as negative or aggressive?  Or is it because a dozen different people would want to use red for two dozen different things?

But isn't that surely something organisations ought to be allowed to decide for themselves?  If it went onto the Ideas site I'd vote for it.

 

And now I've started typing...  what would be useful would be a clear statement about what the defaults are: what work items what certain colours upon creation (via what mechanism?).  Just personally, I've come to a niggling sense that it's not always the same!?

It's actually possible to set other colors via the Import from CSV.  You can specify any hex color in the Display Color column.

My understanding of the original question was if there is a way to include more colors for selection in the little pop-up when editing artifacts in the UI. There isn't a way to extend or override that pop-up to include other or additional colors, and that is what will require an enhancement request.

 

PatCousins1360489 is correct that you can use the CSV file or simply issue WSAPI posts to set artifacts with any rgb color codes. This set color will still not be available in the pop-up for future selection for other objects.

 

grama23 , what is the reason for the pre-selected colors we include in the selection pop-up?
