    Hello everybody

HIAC that is currently using eHealth in a multi NIC environment.

I mean that each server in his environment has 3 NIC (1 on the devices network for polling, 1 on the local network for administrator access, 1 on another network for reporting purpose). People that access the product belong to different departments located in different sites.

Is it possible to reproduce the same environment using PM ?

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks

    Regards

    Roberto

    Hello Roberto,

I want to be sure I understand the question you are asking.

A: Are you asking if we support access to CAPM via multiple IP addresses or host names?

If yes, let me know and I'll research the answer.

B: Are you asking if we support a Data Collector server using multiple NICs for polling network devices for SNMP data?

If yes, we do in that the Data Collector isn't really NIC/IP aware in that way. Per some comments I found:

"We don't do anything special in the DC that I know of for prim/secondary or teaming. SNMP4j binds to 0.0.0.0:RANDOMPORT for listening for SNMP responses (which should mean all interfaces).  SNMP4j will send the SNMP request to the OS, and the OS will handle directing the request out the correct interface based on routing rules."

C: Are you asking if we support polling of devices that have multiple NICs, either teamed or configured in primary/secondary (primary/failover), for SNMP data collection?

If yes at this time we don't have that feature in the product. In that case an Idea wall post to request that idea would be best.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Michael

    Thanks for your help

What I’m generally asking is if each component of the PM infrastructure can work on a server installed with multiple NIC.

So regarding the Data Collector, I need to install more NIC to reach different subnet to poll the devices (just routers and switches)

Regarding the Data Aggregator I need to reach it from different subnet so the server has to be installed with one NIC for each subnet.

    The same for CAPC.

Non multiple host names just multiple address for question A.

    Yes for question B.

    No for question C.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Roberto

    Robert,

    Thanks for the answers.

I've reached out to my engineering team for assistance in answering these questions for you.

More to come on this topic as soon as I have more information to share with you.

    Thanks,

Mike - responding to Roberto's question:

"I need to install more NIC to reach different subnet to poll the devices (just routers and switches)

Regarding the Data Aggregator I need to reach it from different subnet so the server has to be installed with one NIC for each subnet.

    The same for CAPC."

I don't see any reason why the above configuration would not work with  CA PM. The application layer doesn't care what NIC's are being used. These are all mainly routing decisions - there maybe a few configuration steps that we'd want to be careful about. For example:

    • When the DC is installed and asks for the DA hostname / IP, the the info provided should allow the DC to communicate with the DA on port 61616
    • Same goes for communication between CA PC -> DA (synchronization), DA -> CA PC (Event Manager), and DA -> DR's.

If hostnames are used, then this should become even easier as long as hostname resolution is set up for this.
