  • 1.  [Solved] Installation on Solaris Cluster with Oracle RAC

    hi,
    Dollar Universe 5.6

We have Solaris clusters integrated with Oracle RAC, so Oracle is doing alot of the management of where resource groups run.

We wish to run jobs on just one of the servers, so cluster config seems ideal, unfortunately the $U documents don't seem very clear.

It seems that we install $U on both servers, with different node names and different directories - don't seem to need to be shared? Both using the same TCP/IP ports.

Declare both nodes in sck file.

Then a confusing bit in the admin manual which states in uxsrsrv.alias declare

    ...
    UNIV53_NODE2_IO UNIV53_NODE2_IO 10700/tcp
    etc

Does this mean these are the lines on node1 and on node2 substitute with NODE1?

What node name do we use for MU definitions to run jobs?

Another document mentioned installing on shared disks, but provided no more information than that.

    Regards,
    Nik

Ok, no one has installed on a Solaris Cluster - I guess I'll have to fiddle until something works. /sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':excl:' />

    Hi Nik,

I've made contact with other groups in ORSYP to see how best we can help you on this. I'll keep you posted asap.

    Hi Nik,

Don't know how you finally dealt with the installation.

Basically this is a question for Professional Services. I have tried to get a reply from consultants, hoping that one of them would be on the bench, but to no avail.

If you have been able to install DU according to your constraints, would you be so kind to share the solution with us.

If not, do you want me to ask ORSYP PS to contact you (Nabil's team).

What do you mean by "Solaris clusters integrated with Oracle RAC". Do you use x solaris servers with cluster feature, or do you use x standalone solaris servers on which you install Oracle Real Application Cluster. There is a difference between OS Cluster and Oracle Real Application Cluster.

We have a Solaris OS cluster with Oracle RAC installed on top, RAC is in control of what service runs on which server.

I've spoken with Professional services, they have experience of working with an OS cluster with a cluster IP. We could introduce an Oracle service with an IP address, a simple task, then tie it into a resource to determine which cluster node it should run on. However it sounds like no one else has done this before, so I'm following other avenues as I'm never keen on being first for customer delivery projects - just when on R&D projects. /wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
