  • 1.  How to do Application server physical memory monitoring in CA APM

    Posted Jun 29, 2016 09:27 AM

    1. We want to know the physical memory of our Jboss server.

    2. Also, I want to know in CA 10 version, Active connection object count metric gives the correct active number of users in memory or still there is a bug(like in previous versions) where they used to give count for both open and closed

Physical memory of Jboss server would not be able to be monitored by Java agent, which is instrumented on the JVM.

An EPAgent would be a possibility.

    HI Francis,

    1. EPAgent, do we have to procure from CA support team or do we get it along with APM.

    2. Whether it has to be installed in same way in which we install Java agents.

    3. Also, monitoring percentage of Java heap doesn't give an indirect idea of Jboss memory?

To answer your questions, see EP Agent - CA Application Performance Management - 10.3 - CA Technologies Documentation & Install the EPAgent - CA Application Performance Management - 10.3 - CA Technologies Documentation

    1. EPAgent, do we have to procure from CA support team or do we get it along with APM.

There is a stand-alone installer. See 2nd URL

    2. Whether it has to be installed in same way in which we install Java agents.

It is different see 2nd URL above

    3. Also, monitoring percentage of Java heap doesn't give an indirect idea of Jboss memory?

    Yes

Please let me know if there is any further assistance needed or may we mark this as closed

Knowing how much Java heap (percentage) is being used gives a loosely related idea on memory being used.  However, we also need to know how much memory out of the physical memory is allotted to the Java heap for Introscope agent.

    Hi Pratyush:

You can find the APM EPA Compatibility Requirements under 10.2 at SAP Portal Services . It is only based on three criteria:

INTROSCOPE ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE AGENT (EPA)   (part of Introscope)
    SUPPORTED OSHARDWAREJVM

So JBOSS version does not apply here

    Thanks
