  • 1.  Can't install symantec.cloud due to Trend Micro

    Posted Nov 10, 2013 08:31 AM

I purchased a Dell and attempted to remove Trend Micro unsuccessfully. I went through and deleted all registry entries and file/folders. Still when I try to install symantec.cloud on this computer it gives me the error that trend micro internet security needs removed first and fails.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Try their diagnostic kit removal tool

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I tried this and just tried it again - I ran the uninstaller from the control panel -> programs so it wasnt in the start menu but found this support tool exe in the program files.

I click uninstall and it prompts to confirm, then I click yes and it goes away. It came on a Dell probably trialware so I doubt it would give back a serial number. No prompt to restart and Symantec.cloud still fails to install because it finds Trend Micro Internet Security.

I'm pretty sure Trend isnt running - is there a switch in the EXE to bypass the check?

You can try and check the exe switches with /? or --help I believe

    Thanks.

Yea "--help" showed... silent, install path and proxy settings only.

It has to be checking a certain file, folder, service or registry key for Trend - I just need to know where it is checking so I can remove it.

Unfortunately, I'm not very familar with SBE 2013 but I believe this is a new "feature" to check for the presence of another AV. I know if you have malwarebytes installed, the installer will also stop. This does not happen with SEP 11.x/12.1

I've got to believe it's checking for the presence in a reg key or possibly for a running service.

Aside from the opening a case with support to get more info on this, you may just need to meticulously go thru and weed it out, unfortunately.
