  • 1.  Performance issues with SEP Manager installed on a Windows Hyper-V virtual machine.

I'm trying to get a better understanding on the best practices when installing SEP Manager. We are having some performance issues and I wanted to get some clarity.

Currently we have 2 clients that run a Windows Server 2012r2 Host with 2 Hyper-V virtual machines. One of the VM's is what we call our Application server.

The appservers at both clients have performance issues and post I made on technet was recommened that SEP not be installed on a VM as well as not being installed alongside SQL. The VM's and the Host are not being scanned.

I also found these 2 articles/post which had me a bit confused. SEPM installed on our VM's seems to work but is this the cause of the performance issues?

    Any thoughts?

SEPM will not run on a Hyper-V server, it should work fine on a VM provided you have the necessary specs. What kind of specs does the SEPM have? Where does the SQL box sit? Ideally you want both SEPM and SQL on separate boxes.

What are the exact performance issues?

What do you mean it will not run on a Hyper-V server but it will on a VM? Are you referring to the Hyper-V Server as the host/physical server?

Yes. Unless you have a Windows Server with the Hyper-V role enabled, this is supported.

The Host/Physical server has the Hyper-V role installed and SEPM is currently installed on one of the VM's.

I'm still confused on the wording of Hyper-V server. I guess this would imply some non-Windows type operating system? All our Host machines and Hyper-V Vm's have Windows Server operating systems.

Alright so what perf issues exist, can you elaborate a bit?
