    Hi All,

I'm having a problem updating the virus and spyware protection on my PC.

I dont have a internet connection thats why i can not procede with the live update.

We tried the .jdb file but the problem is the folder is until the "data" only.

The symantec version is 12.1.4013 and a self manage PC.

    Run the Intelligent Updater:

Updates for NTP and PTP can be downloaded as well.

Yes, but, Intelligent Updater is more efficient. Nonethless, see here but this is for managed:

The proble iswhen we copy the .jdb file and trying to paste it, we can not find the folder starting with "inbox", we can not continue the installation.

    • On 32-bit operating systems, copy and paste the .jdb file to the following location:
      \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\inbox\content\incoming

Is there a reason you can't or don't want to use the Intelligent Updater? This is specifically for situations like yours.

Yes...we use the Intelligent Updater, but the problem is the folder that the .jdb file must save which is the "incoming" file is not there.

That'd because this is a client, not the SEPM. It's there on the SEPM. You don't need that folder on the client.

how about if it is a self manage machine and do not havea SEPM?

Again, for this you can use the Intelligent Updater. You run the exe and it updates. Simple as that. If you must use the JDB file then drop it into:

    C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\<version>\inbox

You need to create registry key in selg-managed sep client.

Preparing unmanaged clients to receive updates from third-party distribution tools

If you install unmanaged clients from the installation file, you cannot immediately use third-party distribution tools to distribute LiveUpdate content or policy updates to them. As a security measure, by default these client computers do not trust or process the content that third-party distribution tools deliver to them.

To successfully use third-party distribution tools to deliver updates, you must first create a Windows registry key on each of the unmanaged clients. The key lets you use the inbox folder on unmanaged clients to distribute LiveUpdate content and policy updates by using third-party distribution tools
