    Hi.

I'm having some trouble with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 on Windows 7. When installed, it keeps the System Event Notification Service from starting properly, which in turn makes the computer super-slow, disables Areo and a lot of other weird stuff. It feels like I've tried every trick in the book, but it just won't work. The only thing that solves it, is removing SEP alltogether, but that's not a preferrable solution.

What's the exact version of SEP?

I've never heard of this happening before. What components do you have installed?

Is there anything showing in the logs?

I know, I've googled myself into insanity trying to find the answer to this.

    Version 12.1.1101.401.105

Didn't find anything in particular in the logs, and the Windows Event Viewer is being sparse at best.

    Try this

If no system event notification service exists, remove dependency for symantec management client service from registry.
    - take a registry backup.
    - navigate to  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SmcService and delete the Value "DependOnService.
    - close registry.
    - reboot is required at this time.

    Hello,

Try running the SymHelp Utility which may assist you to understand the basic issues.

Symantec Help (SymHelp) is a utility designed to quickly and efficiently diagnose common issues encountered on multiple Symantec products. SymHelp can identify most of the problems that you might run into when installing the client, and provide instructions on how to solve them.

If SymHelp cannot identify the problem, it can create a detailed report that you can submit to Technical Support to identify the problem.

    Download SymHelp

    Hope that helps!!

Thanks for the input, people! I tried that registry fix, without help. The problem still came back after a reboot or two.

Will try SymHelp next, maybe I can find out what the hell is wrong with this computer.
