Good morning,

I was wondering if anyone has or knows the proper steps to make a current scratch tape that hasn't been re-used yet back to a non-scratch tape. I believe some sort of TMSUPDTE flag updates may be required as well as possibly a CTSSYNC with the IBM TS7700 library to put the volume back into a private status.

HI Mike

Yes you can update the EXPDT= to date into future with TMSUPDTE and make sure to use the ,UNEXPIRE so that the SCRATCH bit is turned off

What EXPDT will you be updating the tape to ?  You can rep flag2/3=00 and FLAG4=08 if the dataset is cataloged currently. This way if you update the EXPDT=CATALOG control and have OCTLG=NO it won't expire until it's uncataloged.  The flag4=00 when it is uncataloged.

Also run CTSSYNC with SYNC,vvvvvv.   Make sure your EXPIRE HOLD option in the ts7700 has not exceeded the tape  this tapes has been scratch if its a virtual tape.  If it has then the data is no longer in cache in the TS7700

If you have further questions or need to go into this in more detail let me know and we can open a support ticket to go over it more

thanks
