 .Net Proxy compatibility

We have several .Net proxies generated for external consumers of our application.  We are currently on CA gen 8.6.  The proxies are all are all targeted to .Net framework v4.0.30319. The consuming applications are upgrading to .Net6 soon and asked if there were new runtimes or if the existing runtimes were compatible.  Any advice?

Hello @bkelling
Gen 8.6 still only supports .NET v4 per techdocs page Gen™ 8.6 Technical Requirements Third-Party Software Version (see "Application Environments").
Therefore there are no new runtimes to specifically support .NET v6. Also I don't believe any testing has been done on whether the current Gen 8.6 .NET runtimes will run successfully under .NET v6, but I will try to check this further with Gen Engineering.
In the meantime I would suggest you create a new idea to request future .NET V6 support for Gen 8.6 on the Ideas community.

Lynn

As per @Lynn Williams suggestion, ideation is your likely path.

There is an outstanding one at https://community.broadcom.com/participate/ideation-home/viewidea?IdeationKey=140d00c5-2827-45da-a41e-f8cabd13a5ec which is probably going to meet your needs.  It mentions Core in the title, but asks for 5/6 support in the idea.

5 is already out of support though, with 6 being the LTS one to be replaced by 9 end of 2024 https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/platform/support/policy

Hello @bkelling
Gen Engineering have confirmed that there are no new Gen 8.6 runtimes to specifically support .NET v6, and no testing has been done to check whether the current Gen 8.6 .NET runtimes will run successfully under .NET v6.
Therefore I would strongly suggest you proceed with creating the new idea for future .NET v6 support
EDIT .. or probably it is best to vote on the existing Support for dotnet Core idea found by @Daniel Stratton - Thanks Daniel!

Thanks

Lynn

@bkelling I am the Gen Product Owner. I'd like to talk to you more about your .Net v6 needs. Can you please email me so we can schedule a time to talk? Kim.Peelman@broadcom.com

Because of this community idea request, Support for dotNet Core, we have done some investigation of .Net v6. Our findings had mixed results. If we can better understand your environment set up, we will be able to prioritize that certification work with your needs in mind.

Thank you @Daniel Stratton and @Lynn Williams  for your answers. Your insights are much appreciated!
